Create The Environment

The gym is a place for everyone. The reasons for showing up are vast and varied, not one of us is the same, but the aim is generally always to leave better than when we walked in.

As individuals, we deal with stress, pressure, family, mental health, or any issue differently, but what we can do as a team, is support each other during that one-hour session a day.

The quiet guy up the back with the super hectic on-call job, that barely speaks to anyone might need your voice to get that third squat up. So, we are there for him. The super happy girl that’s there for the lolz and that bangin 90s remix may need a bit more guidance with her tech, so we are there for her with the tips!

The point I’m trying to make is ‘we’ as coaches, as athletes, as a TEAM create the environment. WE are the vibe. To obtain and keep a happy, fluid environment relies on factors such as paying attention to the coach during briefing, asking your questions to save confusion later, avoiding unnecessary conflict, and leaving ego at the door… or even out at the front gate.

The good old ‘Don’t be a ….’ theory goes a long way.

If it’s been a mentally draining day for you, and you have dragged yourself to the gym to at least have a highlight, last thing you want is feeling tension, a scattered noisy session with people not knowing what’s going on because they’re too busy talking with a coach trying to “get all the puppies back into the basket” … nobody wants that ‘I should’ve just strayed home’ feeling.

Let’s pay attention to the coach, they want the best for us! The info they have is for our benefit, so listen to it. If it’s something we already know, others may be experiencing it for the first time, so we want to give our fellow athlete the best chance of success today! So, pipe down and let them hear it

Let’s help each other out, spot each other, and motivate each other. Stick to the coach’s plan, they have put effort into their drills so let’s respect them. Nothing lifts a room more than the moment when an athlete applies a practised drill to a movement and gets it!

Have you ever been in the gym when someone hits their first muscle up? Vibes are SO HIGH! If only we could bottle it!

We want your day to have the highlight. The word ‘community’ gets thrown around a lot in the CrossFit space, but it is exactly that. We probably see each other daily, more than we see close friends, or even family members. We share a common interest that’s brought us together, and we have the common goal of progress, and making ourselves better, stronger humans.

As a team, create that awesome environment that athletes can count on, if they get themselves through that roller door, guaranteed their day will improve. YOU could find yourself in need of that environment one day, so contribute to that vibe when you can.

Create the environment. Be the vibe.
