Competition isn’t just for the Elite! 

Coach mentions a comp in the briefing. Wow the people that go in that are going to have so much fun! They’ll do so well…. It looks so fun. Wish I was a competitor …

Heads up kid! YOU ARE!

We compete in the gym every day. Our sport is literally based on time limits, efficiency and being faster, better, and stronger than yesterday!

What is the difference between lining up and racing ‘Sarah’ from ‘Some Gym CrossFit’ and kicking ass next to your smarty pants, smack talking gym bestie in the 5:30pm Tuesday class?

Nothing. We literally compete EERRRDAY!

Realistically YES ok, there are people, perhaps even a CROWD (btw this crowd WILL cheer for you!), there’s tape on the floor, there’s a judge, you’re in a changed environment… all of this sounds frightening to some people, I get it.

Different things scare different people, sure…

But do you know what ‘nerves’ do…. Creates adrenaline.

WE LOVE THAT STUFF!

Our heart beat faster, giving us more energy with raised blood sugar levels, we breath better with better lung efficiency, our brain is more alert…. That equals a damn good effort on a comp floor!

And a ton of fun, accidental PRs, that first HSPU… magic happens when the hair on the back of your neck stands up!

With competing, apart from the focus level on you, there is not a great deal of difference between the 3 2 1 buzzer on ANY clock. Whether it’s your gym clock, or an air horn at Turf Games….

We hear the BEEP and we GO!

We are all at different levels obviously, that’s why comps have skill and sometimes age categories, but the fact is…. We are all athletes; we are all competitors.

If you are thinking about the open, DO IT!

If you see a fun looking team comp on Instagram, team up with your smack talking bestie and GO on the BEEP!

If you see an indy comp and want to hand it to your smack talking bestie DO THAT TOO!

Scare yourself, it’ll be epic x
